Chief Minister Nitish Kumar resigns amid political turmoil in Bihar

On Tuesday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation to Governor Phagu Chauhan amid a tussle between the ruling alliance of NDA and JD(U), NDTV reported. According to media reports, he is meeting leaders of opposition parties, including Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), to form the next government in the state. All MLAs and MPs of the party supported Mr. Kumar’s decision and said that they were with him. They also asserted that they would continue to support Nitish Kumar in his decision. To this end, Nitish Kumar blames RCP Singh, a former leader from his own party, for serving as Amit Shah’s proxy. RCP Singh quit the JDU on the weekend after his party accused him of deep corruption.

Without naming Chirag Paswan, the legislators are reported to have recalled the actions of former Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief during the 2020 state assembly polls while warning the CM that if they were not alert, it would not be good for the party.

Paswan had fielded rebel BJP candidates in all seats fought by the JD(U) in the 2020 polls, in what some have alleged was part of a plot of the BJP to wedge its way into the ruling coalition in the state.
